About this Speaker

Craig is Executive Principal of Chantry Academy a 11-16 co-educational comprehensive school, serving the Chantry estate and surrounding area within the town of Ipswich. The school’s demographic has a higher than national average of pupil premium students, approx. 50%. With above national average % of students with SEND, EAL and boys. Craig joined the academy in 2015 as the first headteacher through the governments “Talented Leaders programme” which aimed to place Headteachers in the schools that need them most. Taking the school from Special Measures to Good within 3 years.

The schools tag line is “A community for VALUED individuals” with the vision that “Our students will have the skills to be Versatile, the opportunities to exceed their own Aspirations, the knowledge to be Learned, the empathy to be Understanding, the enthusiasm to be Engaged and the encouragement to be Determined. Our students are VALUED.”

This vision is underpinning by our non-negotiable core beliefs: - Every child wants to be successful - There is no excuse for poor progress - There are no barriers to learning - We get what we expect - Learning is our core purpose

The school has also improved its reputation within the local community with 100% of parents recommending the school an improvement from the 30% in 2015. The school is now heavily oversubscribed.

Alongside the developments to support the children Chantry Academy has re-introduced adult education to the estate and works across the Active Learning Trust to develop the Arts and the explicit employability skills that these develop.
